Hardcover Poetry Book, Spoon River Anthology, Edgar Lee Masters, Poetry Collections

A wonderful poetry book called Spoon River Anthology by Edgar Lee Masters. This is a 1943 Edition.

Spoon River Anthology is a collection of short free-form poems that collectively describe the life of the fictional small town of Spoon River. The collection includes two hundred and twelve separate characters, all providing two-hundred forty-four accounts of their lives and losses, and each person a resident of the town cemetery. Masters has each relate a short story; some folks talk about their life, many about the circumstances of their death. Husbands and wives relate different perspectives of the same events, lovers and soldiers tell of their history, and each is a distinct, poetic voice.

Edgar Lee Masters (1868 – 1950) was an American attorney, poet, biographer, and dramatist. He is the author of Spoon River Anthology, The New Star Chamber and Other Essays, Songs and Satires, The Great Valley, The Serpent in the Wilderness, An Obscure Tale, The Spleen, Mark Twain: A Portrait, Lincoln: The Man, and Illinois Poems. In all, Masters published twelve plays, twenty-one books of poetry, six novels and six biographies, including those of Abraham Lincoln, Mark Twain, Vachel Lindsay, and Walt Whitman.
