A wonderful children's hardcover book called John Billington Friend of Squanto. Weekly Reader 1956 edition. Illustrated by Peter Burchard.

This is a story about John Billington, who came over on the Mayflower as a boy. His natural mistakes were often misinterpreted as carelessness and open aggression. But his friendship with Squanto provided the opening of a friendship between his people and the Indians of Cape Cod. After the Pilgrims settled, John is made miserable by the most recent misunderstanding with the pilgrims and runs off to be alone in the forest. Lost, he is taken by Chief Aspinet's men and kept with the tribe. But his friendship with Squanto has given the boy knowledge of Indian ways which makes life easier for him. After his rescue, in which Squanto is instrumental in, the friendship which builds with the native people, provides the Pilgrims with a new security.

Clyde Robert Bulla (1914-2007) was an American writer who wrote over fifty books for children.

This book is in Very Good condition. Binding is tight and the covers are clean with just the usual shelf wear and rubbing to the corners. Pages are white and clean with the exception of the front flyleaf that has a handwritten inscription. This book is over 65 years old.

As New: The book is in the same immaculate condition as when it was published. This could be the description for a book that has been lost in a warehouse for years, never shelved, thumbed or even opened yet may still be some years old.

Fine: A Fine book approaches the condition of As New, but without being crisp. The book may have been opened and read, but there are no defects to the book, jacket or pages.

Very Good: Describes a book that shows some small signs of wear - but no tears - on either binding or paper. Any defects should be noted by the seller.

Good: Describes the average used book that has all pages or leaves present. Any defects should be noted by the seller.

Fair: Worn book that has complete text pages (including those with maps or plates) but may lack endpapers, half-title, etc. Binding, jacket (if any), etc., may also be worn. All defects should be noted.
