Cream Soup Bowls, Hazel Atlas, Royal Lace Cobalt Blue, Set of 2, Depression Glass
A beautiful set of two pressed glass cream soup bowls by Hazel Atlas. The pattern is called Royal Lace Cobalt Blue and consists of cobalt blue glass with a pressed lace design. These dishes would have many different uses besides as soup bowls such as holding relishes, sauces, salsas, fruit, vegetables, nuts, or candy. They would look great on a dining table, sideboard, or buffet table. These would make a great gift and would be wonderful for a collector of depression glass.
The Hazel-Atlas Glass Company was founded in 1902 by the merger of four companies in Washington, Pennsylvania. The companies that merged were the Hazel Glass and Metals Company, which started in 1887, the Atlas Glass Company, founded in 1896, plus two smaller unnamed companies. This union started a long history which would later produce the largest glass company in the world. Unlike many of the dozens of glass manufacturers of the era, Hazel Atlas excelled in that, not only did they produce functional and utilitarian glass, but they were the forerunner of the household glass production line which was an indispensable industry during the formative years of the Great Depression. They operated from 1902 to 1964.
