The inscription states "With Best Wishes Rene (with a chef drawing) San Francisco July 21, 1972. The dedication to the book states "Respectfully dedicated to our late president John Fitzgerald Kennedy and to Mrs. Kennedy, Caroline and John with gratitude for giving me the happiest years of my life.

René Verdon (1924 – 2011) was a French-born American chef and author. Verdon was the chef for the White House during the administrations of John F. Kennedy and Lyndon B. Johnson. Verdon was hired by First Lady Jacqueline Kennedy in 1961.

This book is in very good condition. The binding is tight. The book has no markings on the inside except for the inscription on the title page. The pages are all clean without any staining. The white covers show light staining. The dust cover is in fair condition which consists for tearing along the spine and chipping around the edges.

This would make a great gift idea for the person who loves history and loves to cook.
