Mystery of the Pirate’s Ghost by Elizabeth Honness – Illustrated by Beth & Joe Krush – Vintage Children’s Mystery Book - 1966 First Edition

$9.00

Here’s a classic from the golden age of juvenile mysteries—Mystery of the Pirate’s Ghost by Elizabeth Honness. This is a stated first edition from 1966, published by J. B. Lippincott Company, and illustrated throughout by Beth and Joe Krush—the same talented duo behind the original illustrations for The Borrowers. The story blends pirates, ghosts, and an old New England setting into a suspenseful tale perfect for young readers with an imagination (or grown-ups who remember being one). A great book for collectors of mid-century children's fiction or anyone who appreciates vintage book illustration.

Condition: Reading Copy
The book shows signs of age and use—pages are yellowed and the clothbound cover has staining and corner wear. No dust jacket. Binding is sound, all pages present. This is a well-loved copy, best suited for display or reading rather than pristine collecting.

Synopsis:
When Abby and Kit Hubbard moved into the family homestead on the New England coast, they were unprepared for the surprises the historic old house had in store for them. Into their lives, for the first time, came their mother's elderly half-sister, Miss Ann Pingree. From her they learned about the secret closet, the smugglers' tunnel which no one had ever been able to find—and about one of their ancestors who was captured by pirates in the early eighteenth century. He was never heard of again and was believed to haunt their old house! Tangled family relationships, a caretaker who arouses their suspicions, and a disappearing desk result in the uncovering of a clever racket. And a dangerous exploration undertaken by Abby and Kit lead to a gruesome discovery.
