Here’s a true piece of Americana—Red Plume by Edward S. Ellis, published in 1900 by The Mershon Company. This antique hardcover is over 120 years old and was written for young readers back when frontier stories and tales of noble Native American warriors were all the rage. Edward S. Ellis was one of the most prolific authors of the 19th century, and Red Plume follows his classic formula of adventure, survival, and friendship in the wilds of early America. This copy still has its beautiful, illustrated cloth cover intact, showing a young boy reading from a fence—bright colors and a bold design that helped make books like this, fly off the shelves in their day. It’s not a pristine copy, but it’s a survivor with plenty of charm. Great for collectors of antique children's books, lovers of frontier fiction, or anyone who appreciates the past just as it was—honest wear and all.
