Here’s a wonderful find for lovers of antique books and early 20th-century fiction. The Stolen Singer by Martha Bellinger is a 1911 first edition published by The Bobbs-Merrill Company, and it still holds all of its original charm. This copy includes all illustrations by Arthur William Brown—best known for his work in The Saturday Evening Post—as well as the tissue guard over the frontispiece. A lovely gift for a vintage book collector or anyone who enjoys Edwardian-era fiction with a hint of mystery and romance.
Synopsis:
The Stolen Singer centers around Agatha Redmond, a strong-willed and independent American woman caught in a web of intrigue after the mysterious disappearance of a world-famous opera singer. As secrets unfold, Agatha must navigate both the mystery and her complicated feelings toward the men around her—especially a driven and protective man named Max. The story blends themes of identity, gender roles, and the pull between art and personal freedom. It's equal parts romantic and suspenseful, written in the voice of someone well-read and steeped in early 20th-century literary values.
Condition: Very Good for it's age
The spine is tight, all pages are present, and the interior is clean with no marks or writing. There is the expected wear for a book over a century old—some corner bumping, light rubbing to the cover, and yellowing to the pages. The embossed cloth cover with its yellow rose design and gilt lettering still displays beautifully.
