Childrens Book, The Tree House Mystery, Weekly Reader

$12.00

If you grew up in the ’70s or early ’80s, you probably remember these Weekly Reader books showing up in the classroom like a small holiday. This 1973 hardcover edition of The Tree House Mystery by Carol Beach York is one of those stories that felt just right for a quiet afternoon — a little mystery, a little adventure, nothing too scary, and all the charm that came with childhood summers spent outside. The illustrations by Reisie Lonette have that soft, sketch-style look that was everywhere in early ’70s children’s books — simple, expressive, and very much of the era. Anyone who grew up then will recognize the style right away. Whether you're rebuilding a childhood library, collecting Weekly Readers, or buying for a young reader who enjoys the softer mysteries, this one deserves a spot on the shelf.

The story follows Annabelle and her brother Roger, who are just going about their day when they discover a note left behind in their tree house. From there, the two of them follow footprints, secret trails, and scattered clues through the woods. The mystery isn’t dark or heavy — it’s the kind kids could solve without ever leaving the backyard. By the end, it turns into a gentle reminder that sometimes the unknown just leads to new friends.
