If you grew up in a home where the good serving plate only came out for holidays or Sunday dinners, this one will feel familiar the moment you hold it. This 12-inch chop plate was made by MacBeth-Evans sometime between 1938 and 1944, back when dishes were built to serve generations, not seasons. The pattern is called Classic Bouquet, a bright mix of red-orange roses, soft blue forget-me-nots, and pale yellow blossoms gathered together in the center. The rim is beautifully molded with a raised scroll design — the kind of detail that doesn’t ask for attention but still manages to get it. If you like vintage pieces that still carry the feeling of a well-kept kitchen, this one’s ready to come home.
This piece is made of Chinex, a specialty glass made in the USA during the late ’30s and early ’40s. Chinex is a type of milk glass, but heavier, stronger, and more durable than the milk glass most people are used to. It was created to be everyday-tough — the sort of plate that could handle a Sunday roast one week and a birthday cake the next without showing much wear.
This plate is in excellent condition for its age — no chips, no cracks, no crazing, and the colors in the bouquet are still bright and clear. At 12 inches across it works as a chop plate, a sandwich tray, or a cake plate…whatever job you give it. It can even handle, Christmas cookies for Santa.
This would make a great holiday or special occasion gift or a great addition to your own pantry or cupboards.
