Vintage Weekly Reader Children’s Book, The Ghost of Windy Hill

This is The Ghost of Windy Hill by Clyde Robert Bulla, a vintage Weekly Reader children’s book from 1968 — one of those quiet, thoughtful stories many of us remember discovering at school.
Clyde Robert Bulla was very good at letting young readers think things through instead of spelling everything out. The black-and-white illustrations by Don Bolognese add just the right amount of mood. Slightly eerie, a little old-fashioned, and perfectly matched to the story.

Synopsis:

Clyde Robert Bulla (1914 - 2007) was the author of over fifty books for children. He received his early education in a one-room schoolhouse where he began writing stories and songs. He finished his first book shortly after his graduation from high school and then went to work on a newspaper as a columnist and a typesetter. His first book, The Donkey Cart, was published in 1946.

Don Bolognese was born in New York City to immigrant parents and grew up in an atmosphere of art and Italian culture. A graduate of the Cooper Union School of Art, he determined early on that he would be an illustrator, and after illustrating works by many other authors he decided to write his own books.
