A wonderful English Transferware scenic bowl. It’s shallow, light in the hand, and printed in that soft brick-red color the English potteries favored in the mid-1800s. The scene portrayed on the bowl shows a woman resting outdoors with a lamb at her side, a small cottage tucked in the distance, framed by trees and flowers. It’s calm and quiet — the kind of image Victorians liked to see on the table after a long day. These bowls weren’t made to sit on a shelf. They were meant for fruit, puddings, or sweets, passed around a table that actually got used. That’s part of the charm — this one has clearly lived a long life and come through it in beautiful shape. Unmarked on the base, which is typical for English transferware of this period, especially pieces made for everyday household use. A lovely example of mid-19th century English pottery — honest, useful, and still handsome all these years later.
