There was a time when every bedroom had a washstand, and mornings started right where you slept. Before indoor plumbing reached every home, a bowl and pitcher like this sat on a dresser, ready for washing up, shaving, and getting on with the day. This vintage ceramic wash bowl and pitcher dates to the mid-20th century, made in the traditional style of earlier washstand sets. It features a soft green spongeware-style glaze that fades into cream, with a floral transfer design on the front of the pitcher. The bowl has a gently molded rim with matching green shading. This set is no longer meant for daily washing, but it makes a beautiful decorative piece for a farmhouse bedroom, guest room, bathroom shelf, or period display. It also fits well in homes that appreciate early household routines and traditional living.
