Back in the 1930s and ’40s, companies liked to brag that their wares could hold up in a busy kitchen, and this pie plate was one of them. Made by Paden City Pottery it earned the Good Housekeeping seal of approval and was sold as “oven-proof,” back when most pies were made from scratch and nobody wasted a dish if they didn’t have to. It’s the kind of piece that looks good on an open shelf, but it’s still sturdy enough to use if you’re the baking type. Whether you love early kitchenware or you enjoy that sensible Depression-era look, this is one of those pieces that has done its job for nearly 80 years and still has plenty of life left in it.

This pie plate is clean as can be—no chips, cracks, crazing, or worn spots. The floral transfer in the center still has all its color.
