Lovely unmistakable late 19th-century French glass. The weight, the depth of the pressing, the kind of detail that simply isn’t done today. This footed bowl was produced by Cristallerie de Portieux, one of France’s historic glassworks dating back to the 1700s. The embossed Portieux mark appears clearly on the underside within a sunburst medallion. Dating to approximately 1870–1890, this piece would originally have been a covered sugar or bonbon dish. The lid is no longer present, but the base stands beautifully on its own and reads today as an elegant pedestal bowl. What truly sets it apart are the dramatic scroll feet — often described as dragon feet — richly molded and full of movement. They give the piece presence and architectural character. Above them, a swagged garland motif wraps the body, while a crisp leaf border frames the rim. This is a refined example of Victorian French pressed glass — decorative, display-ready, and nearly 150 years old.
Under blacklight, the glass shows a soft manganese glow — a quiet confirmation of its age and authentic late-19th-century composition.
