Gravy Boat with Underplate, Edwin Knowles, Made in USA, Floral with Gold Trim

A proper gravy boat for your Sunday dinner. This one was made by Edwin M. Knowles China Company in Newell, West Virginia, and it dates to the 1940s. It has that soft ivory tone you only see in older semi-vitreous china, trimmed in warm gold with delicate pink florals and a yellow geometric border.
Gravy Boat Condition:
The gravy boat itself is in beautiful condition — truly. The glaze is bright, the gold trim along the rim and handle is still intact, and there are no chips, cracks, or crazing. It almost looks like it was tucked away in a cabinet and brought out only on special occasions.
Underplate Condition:
The matching underplate tells a more practical story. It shows surface scratching from the foot of the boat and the gold trim has worn significantly along the edge. It appears to have done double duty as a small serving platter over the years — which, frankly, is exactly how many of these pieces were used.
