Some dishes have that quiet elegance that was common in American homes before the war, when Sunday dinner meant setting out the good china and gathering the family around the table. This vintage vegetable serving bowl was made by the Edwin M. Knowles China Company in West Virginia, one of the long-standing American china makers of the early 20th century. The bowl has a soft ivory body with a delicate bouquet of flowers in the center, surrounded by small floral accents and a striking gold geometric border with black and purple details around the rim. The Art Deco design reflects the decorative styles popular in the late 1930s and early 1940s, when floral china with gold trim was often reserved for holiday meals and special occasions. It makes a lovely serving bowl for vegetables, fruit, or side dishes and would also display beautifully in a china cabinet or vintage kitchen collection.
Condition: Excellent
The glaze is clean and bright, with no chips, cracks, crazing, or utensil marks. There is only light wear to the gold trim, which is common for a piece of this age.
