This vintage serving platter was made by the Edwin M. Knowles China Company of Newell, West Virginia, one of the well-known American china manufacturers of the early twentieth century. Pieces like this were part of dinner sets that were brought out for family gatherings, Sunday dinners, and holiday meals. The platter features a soft ivory background with a delicate floral bouquet in the center and small floral accents around the rim. Surrounding the edge is a striking geometric border in gold with black and purple accents, a design that reflects the Art Deco influence popular during the late 1930s and early 1940s. It is a beautiful example of vintage American dinnerware and would be perfect for serving meals, displaying in a china cabinet, or replacing a missing piece from an older Knowles dinner set.
Condition: Good
This platter was clearly used and enjoyed over the years. There are utensil marks and some wear to the gold trim, which is common for a serving piece of this age. The china itself remains solid and clean with no chips, cracks, or crazing.
