This little bowl is one of those pieces of old glass that would have quietly lived on a family table many years ago. Small dishes like this were often filled with candies, nuts, olives, or berries and passed around during dinner or set out when company came by.
The bowl has a lovely oval shape with a softly scalloped rim and four small feet that lift it just slightly off the table. Pressed panels rise from the center to the edge, giving the glass a nice sparkle when the light hits it.
Under a blacklight the bowl glows a soft purple. That glow comes from manganese that was used in early glass making as a clarifying agent. Glass made this way is from the early 1900s, and collectors today enjoy seeing that little purple glow because it confirms the age of the piece. It’s a small bowl, but it’s a charming one — perfect for candy, nuts, or simply as a pretty antique glass accent on a shelf or table.
