Some pieces feel like they belong in a quiet English countryside cottage, and this little blue and white plate is one of them. Made in England by Johnson Bros., this small china dish features the “Water Mill” scene from the Old Mill Blue pattern, a design that was part of a larger dinnerware line produced during the 1960s. The scene shows a peaceful mill beside the water with trees, a small boat, and figures along the shoreline. It captures that romantic countryside style that made blue and white English transferware so popular for generations. While this piece was originally intended as a small coaster or pin dish, it works beautifully today as a mini decorative plate. At just over four inches wide, it’s perfect for a small plate stand, a gallery wall of blue and white china, or tucked into a kitchen shelf display.
Pieces like this are often overlooked, but they bring a lot of charm to a room. The classic blue transfer design pairs easily with farmhouse, cottage, or traditional décor, and it looks especially nice mixed with other English blue and white patterns. A lovely little piece of English china history that still looks right at home today.
This piece was made by Johnson Bros. of Staffordshire, England, a company founded in 1883 and well known for producing durable earthenware and ironstone tableware that found its way into homes all over the world.
