These are the kind of little glasses that seem to find a use no matter what’s happening in the kitchen. This set of two vintage pedestal glasses was made by the Federal Glass Company, a well-known American glassmaker that supplied durable everyday glassware to households throughout the mid-1900s. Their simple, sturdy designs were made to be used and enjoyed, not tucked away in a cabinet. Each glass stands about 3 inches tall and measures roughly 2¾ inches across the rim, holding approximately 4 ounces. The short pedestal base gives them a nice weight and balance in the hand while keeping the design clean and classic. Originally pieces like these were often sold as part of mid-century snack sets, where a small glass cup or glass sat in a circular indentation on a snack tray. Over the years many of the trays disappeared, but the cups and glasses remained—and they turned out to be wonderfully versatile.
