This Noritake demitasse china set pattern catches your eye right away. The gold decoration on this little cup and saucer is wonderfully detailed, with scrolling vines, small rose medallions, and delicate beading that almost looks like jewelry wrapped around the porcelain.
This set was made by Noritake in Japan and carries the classic Morimura “M in Wreath” backstamp, used during the early part of the 20th century. The pattern number is 16034, that design collectors often refer to as “Christmas Ball” because of the ornate gold medallions within the scrollwork. The gold decoration on this set is still strong and bright, and the porcelain remains in very good vintage condition with no chips or cracks. Even though it’s small, this is the kind of piece that adds a little elegance to a shelf, cabinet, or coffee service.
Demitasse cups like this were made for after-dinner coffee or espresso, which is why they are smaller than a typical teacup. Today they’re just as often used for display, collecting, or as a charming way to serve espresso when guests come by.
