This is an album that takes people right back to the early days of rock and roll, and The Ventures were right in the middle of that sound. This vintage 1967 stereo LP, Golden Greats by The Ventures, collects many of their best-known instrumental hits all on one album. If you grew up hearing surf rock guitar instrumentals on the radio, you will recognize several of the songs right away. Classics like Walk Don’t Run, Pipeline, Apache, and Wipe Out helped define the sound of early instrumental rock. The Ventures were known for their clean guitar tone and driving rhythm, and their music influenced generations of guitar players.
This is an original Liberty Records stereo pressing (catalog number LST-8053) with the classic Liberty label featuring the Statue of Liberty logo. The album comes in its original gatefold cover and inner sleeve. The cover shows light edge wear and some corner bending from normal age and handling. There is also a small mark on the back where a price sticker was once attached. The gatefold interior is clean with no rips or tears. The original paper inner sleeve is included. It shows some yellowing from age but has no seam splits. The vinyl itself shows heavy play wear with multiple scratches and rub marks from years of listening. Two tracks, Honky Tonk and Walk Don’t Run, have heavier marks. Because of this the record should be considered a well-played vintage copy and will likely have surface noise during playback. Even so, it is still a classic Ventures album and a nice piece for anyone who enjoys vintage surf rock guitar or likes collecting original 1960s vinyl records.
