Bob Seger Stranger in Town Vinyl LP, 1978 Capitol Wally Cut, Poster Insert

Bob Seger and the Silver Bullet Band’s Stranger in Town is one of those albums people remember by feel just as much as sound. Late-night drives, radio turned up, and songs that stuck with you long after. There’s a certain kind of record that doesn’t need an introduction—and this is one of them.

This is an original 1978 Capitol Records pressing (SW-11698), complete with the original lyric/photo inner sleeve and the poster insert—which, frankly, is getting harder to find still tucked inside and unused like this.

The cover shows its age. There’s heavy rubbing, edge wear, and some creasing along the top. No seam splits though. The inner sleeve has been taped on three sides—someone took the time to reinforce it rather than replace it. Not pretty, but practical, and it kept it together all these years.

The vinyl itself still has a nice gloss to it. You’ll see surface scratches, but nothing deep or gouged. It’s the kind of record that’s been played, not abused.

And here’s the part seasoned record folks look for—the deadwax is marked SW-1-11698 F-3 with “Wally”, which points to mastering by Wally Traugott at Capitol. Those cuts are known for sounding right—clean, balanced, and full.
