This lovely Venus pattern plate has a way of carrying you back to another century. Made by Podmore, Walker & Co. of Staffordshire, England, this antique Pearl Stone Ware plate features the Venus pattern, a romantic lakeside scene with swans, strolling figures, grand architecture, and graceful trees. The detailed brown transfer scene is framed by an intricate green scroll border that gives the plate wonderful visual contrast and unmistakable Victorian charm.
The underside bears the original P.W. & Co. Venus Pearl Stone Ware mark, placing this piece in the early Victorian era. This plate remains in excellent antique condition with no chips, cracks, crazing, or utensil marks. There is a small transfer-printing irregularity along the rim that occurred during manufacture and is original to the piece. Whether displayed in a transferware collection, used as part of a historic table setting, or hung on a wall, this plate offers a beautiful example of nineteenth-century English pottery.

History & Age
The Venus pattern was produced by Podmore, Walker & Co. of Tunstall, Staffordshire, England. The company operated under that name from approximately 1834 to 1856. Pearl Stone Ware was a refined earthenware popular during the Victorian period and widely exported to North America. Today, surviving examples in this condition are becoming increasingly difficult to find, particularly those retaining crisp transfer decoration and free of crazing.
