Crystal Gayle Miss the Mississippi LP Vinyl Record, 1979 Columbia JC 36203, Country Music Album

$12.00

Crystal Gayle's long braid became almost as famous as her voice, and this album is one of those records that instantly takes you back to the late 1970s. Before the needle ever touched the vinyl, you already knew whose record you were holding from the cover alone. Whether you grew up listening to Crystal Gayle or are adding another classic country album to your collection, this is a nice original pressing from the year it was released.

Released in 1979, Miss the Mississippi marked Crystal Gayle's first album for Columbia Records after a successful run with United Artists. It also introduced listeners to "Half the Way," one of her best-known songs and a No. 1 country hit that crossed over to the pop charts. This copy includes the original picture jacket, the original lyric inner sleeve, and the Columbia LP.

The jacket shows honest shelf wear from years of handling, including rubbing, edge wear, and corner wear, but there are no seam splits or major damage. The original lyric sleeve is included and has one split along an edge.

Looking over the record, the vinyl still has a nice gloss. It shows light surface wear along with a slight overall haze from years of normal use and storage, something often seen on records that have been well enjoyed. We found no deep scratches or gouges during our visual inspection.

**Sold as-is, not play-tested**

History
Released in 1979, Miss the Mississippi was Crystal Gayle's first album after signing with Columbia Records. By then she had already become one of country music's biggest stars, known for her smooth vocals and her trademark floor-length hair. The album reached the country charts and featured "Half the Way," which became a No. 1 Country hit while also crossing over to the Billboard Hot 100. That success helped strengthen Crystal Gayle's reputation for blending traditional country with the polished country-pop sound that was becoming popular during the late 1970s.
