Antique Vignaud Limoges France Covered Square Vegetable Bowl, Pink Floral, Gold Gilt Handles, c1905-1925

This antique covered vegetable bowl is a beautiful example of early 20th-century Limoges craftsmanship. Made by Vignaud Limoges for the prestigious John Wanamaker Department Store, this serving piece features an elegant pink floral border framed by intricate gold scrollwork and accented with richly gilded handles and finial. Unlike the more common oval serving bowls, this square form gives the piece a distinctive appearance that immediately draws the eye. Whether displayed in a china cabinet or used as part of a formal table setting, it makes a wonderful statement. The porcelain has been exceptionally well cared for. The bright white finish remains clean, the gold retains an excellent shine with only minimal wear, and there are no utensil marks inside the bowl. A beautiful addition to any Limoges collection, formal dining room, or antique china display.

History
Vignaud was one of the respected porcelain manufacturers operating in Limoges, France during the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries. Limoges porcelain became internationally recognized for its brilliant white body, exceptional craftsmanship, and elegant decoration, making it one of the finest porcelains produced in Europe. This piece was imported and retailed by John Wanamaker, founder of one of America's first luxury department stores. Wanamaker offered fine French porcelain to affluent American families, many of whom gradually assembled complete dinner services over many years. Covered vegetable bowls like this were important serving pieces reserved for formal meals and holiday entertaining.
Dating to approximately 1905–1925, this bowl represents both the quality of French porcelain manufacturing and the elegance of American dining during the early twentieth century.
