History
Released in 1975, History: America's Greatest Hits was the first compilation album by the folk-rock group America. Produced by legendary Beatles producer George Martin, the album gathered the band's biggest hits from their first five albums into one collection. It quickly became one of America's best-selling records and introduced many listeners to songs such as A Horse With No Name, Ventura Highway, Tin Man, and Sister Golden Hair. An interesting bit of music history is the album artwork. It was created by Phil Hartman, who years later became famous as a cast member on Saturday Night Live and as a star of NewsRadio. Before his acting career, Hartman worked as a graphic designer and illustrated several album covers for musicians. More than fifty years after its release, this album remains one of the easiest and most enjoyable ways to experience the smooth harmonies and timeless sound that made America a favorite of 1970s radio.
