The Burnished Blade by Lawrence Schoonover, published by The Macmillan Company in 1948. The red cloth-covered hardcover is in very good vintage condition. The binding is tight and the embossed cover shows very little shelf wear. Gold lettering and decoration on the spine remain bright and clear.
Pages
The pages are complete with no loose or missing pages and show only light yellowing from age. There are no markings noted within the text. A previous owner's signature is written on the front flyleaf.
Dust Cover:
The original illustrated dust jacket shows considerably more wear than the book it protected. There is a large chip/loss along the bottom edge of the front, a small tear near the spine, and additional age-related edge wear. The remainder of the jacket retains good color and presents nicely for its age.

Synopsis
Set primarily in 15th-century France, The Burnished Blade follows Pierre, a young boy who is taken in by Hugh, an armorer, and becomes his apprentice during the turbulent period surrounding Joan of Arc. Pierre's life eventually carries him far beyond the armorer's workshop and France itself. His adventures lead him through danger, intrigue, espionage, battle and romance, eventually taking him into the Near East. Against a backdrop of medieval warfare and political upheaval, Pierre must make his own way in a world where fortunes—and loyalties—can change quickly. A sweeping historical adventure combining medieval life, romance and intrigue.

History
The Burnished Blade was Lawrence Schoonover's first novel, published by The Macmillan Company in 1948. Schoonover became known for historical novels that combined fictional characters and adventure with carefully researched historical settings.
