1932 Popular Stories for Girls, Four Complete Books, Omnibus Book

Popular Stories for Girls is a 1932 Cupples & Leon hardcover containing four complete juvenile adventure stories originally published between 1913 and 1931. A nice surviving collection of early 20th-century girls' series fiction, combining four adventure and mystery stories in one volume.

The four stories included are:
Ruth Fielding of the Red Mill
Recently orphaned Ruth Fielding went to live with her stern great-uncle Jabez Potter at the Red Mill. New friendships and the mystery surrounding her uncle's missing money soon lead Ruth into an adventure requiring courage and determination. This was the first story in the long-running Ruth Fielding series.

Peggy and Michael of the Coffee Plantation
Peggy Lee and her family travel to a coffee plantation in Central America, where Peggy and Michael encounter unfamiliar surroundings, new people, and plenty of adventure.

The Linger-Nots and the Mystery House
Nine adventurous girls known as the Linger-Nots become involved in the secrets surrounding a mysterious house. Working together, they use friendship and resourcefulness to uncover what is really happening.

Billie Bradley and Her Inheritance
Billie Bradley unexpectedly inherits an old homestead at Cherry Corners in upper New York State. The inheritance soon brings Billie and her friends face-to-face with strange happenings and a mystery hidden within the old property.


Published by Cupples & Leon Company of New York, this collected edition dates to 1932.

Condition: Very Good
The orange cloth hardcover has black lettering and shows rubbing, light sun fading, and age-related wear along the edges and spine. The binding remains tight and intact, with no loose or detached pages noted. The interior is quite nice for its age. Pages are clean with only light yellowing and no writing or markings noted within the stories.

The front flyleaf has a handwritten birthday inscription:
“Happy Birthday to Verna
From Cousin John & Aunt Frances”
The date 1932 is written in the upper corner. Since this is also the publication year of this edition, the inscription appears to have been written when the book was new.

As New: The book is in the same immaculate condition as when it was published. This could be the description for a book that has been lost in a warehouse for years, never shelved, thumbed or even opened yet may still be some years old.

Fine: A Fine book approaches the condition of As New, but without being crisp. The book may have been opened and read, but there are no defects to the book, jacket or pages.
