A lovely, matched set of five antique Dresden China plates featuring soft lavender and green shading with delicate pink and white flowers. Each plate has a lavender-purple shaded upper portion that gradually changes to pale green toward the bottom. A floral spray of pink and white blossoms with green leaves decorates the lower portion, and a narrow gold band finishes the rim. All five are marked DRESDEN CHINA on the back. This is a pretty surviving set of early American china with the soft shaded colors and floral decoration popular during the early 20th century. They would make lovely display plates, cabinet pieces, or additions to a collection of antique American dinnerware.

Condition:
All five plates are free of chips and cracks. The gold trim remains bright overall but does show wear from age and use. These plates have heavy crazing throughout, visible on both the front and back. The crazing is quite pronounced and is shown in the photographs.

History:
Despite the Dresden name, these should not be confused with the elaborate porcelain commonly referred to as Dresden porcelain from Germany. Research references the DRESDEN/CHINA mark as an American mark associated with Brunt, Bloor, Martin & Co., later the Potters Co-Operative Co., with use beginning after 1900. East Liverpool, Ohio was one of America's major pottery centers, with numerous china and pottery manufacturers operating there during the early decades of the 20th century. Based on the mark, decoration and construction, I would describe this set conservatively as early 20th century, circa 1900s–1920s.
