Vintage Jackson Vitrified China oval vegetable serving bowl in glossy white with classic green band decoration. The bowl has a wide green band with a narrow parallel green line around the upper rim and an additional fine green line following the oval shape inside the bottom of the bowl. The simple green and white design is characteristic of commercial china made for restaurant, hotel and institutional use.

Condition:
Very good vintage condition. The white vitrified china remains remarkably bright, glossy and shiny. There is very little wear to the green bands around the rim. Some light utensil marks are present in the bottom of the bowl from normal use. No chips or cracks. From even a short distance, this bowl presents exceptionally well and gives little indication of its age. This is a wonderful example of the sturdy American commercial china once used in restaurants, hotels and other food-service establishments.
History
Jackson China traces its history to Falls Creek, Pennsylvania, where the company developed into an important American manufacturer of vitrified commercial china during the early 20th century. The Jackson China Company name was established in 1914, followed by the Jackson Vitrified China Company name in 1916. Vitrified china became particularly well suited to commercial food service because it was dense, durable and capable of standing up to the repeated washing, stacking and handling encountered in busy restaurants and hotels.
