The Jolly Barnyard Little Golden Book by Annie North Bedford, Children’s Farm Story, Vintage 1972

A charming vintage copy of The Jolly Barnyard, a classic Little Golden Book written by Annie North Bedford and illustrated by Tibor Gergely. This is the Eighth Printing from 1972. Filled with colorful illustrations of Farmer Brown and his barnyard animals, it is a wonderful example of the children's books many of us grew up reading.

Condition: Good
This vintage copy has been enjoyed and shows its age. The cover has rubbing along with edge and corner wear. The clear plastic coating is peeling/lifting along the top edge and at the upper right corner. The spine remains tight and there are no loose pages. The pages have light age-related yellowing but remain clean. There are no marks or writing anywhere in the book, and even the "This Little Golden Book belongs to" box inside the front cover was never filled in. Please view the photographs closely as they are part of the description and show the condition of this 1972 children's book.

Synopsis
It's Farmer Brown's birthday, and the animals around the farm want to do something special for him. Each realizes that it already has something useful to give—from eggs and milk to wool and the everyday work that helps keep the farm going. Told with simple rhymes and Tibor Gergely's colorful illustrations, The Jolly Barnyard is a cheerful story about giving what you can and appreciating the contribution everyone makes.

History
The Jolly Barnyard was written by Annie North Bedford and illustrated by Hungarian-born artist Tibor Gergely (1900–1978). Gergely became one of the best-known early Little Golden Book illustrators and also illustrated such favorites as Tootle, The Little Red Caboose, and Scuffy the Tugboat. His association with Golden Books began in 1942, the year the series was launched, and he ultimately illustrated more than 70 Golden Books. Little Golden Books were created as affordable, colorful books meant to be placed directly into children's hands rather than treated as precious objects. That is one reason older copies with tight bindings and clean, unmarked interiors—like this one—are always pleasant survivors, even when their covers show the evidence of having been read and enjoyed.
