Hawkes Co. Corning, NY was one if America's finest producers of fine crystal. The company was founded in 1880 by Thomas Gibbons Hawkes, who emigrated from Ireland at age 17. Hawkes glassware was used in the White House from 1885 until 1938. The firm's logo was a trefoil form enclosing a hawk in each of the two bottom lobes with a fleur-de-lis in the center and this mark is on the bottom of this wonderful bowl.
4 1/2 inches in height
9 3/4 inches across the top
4 1/4 inches across base
The bowl is very heavy.
This compote is in excellent condition. There are no chips or cracks. There is the usual scratching on the bottom from shelf wear. The company logo is still easily seen on the bottom.
This would make a great housewarming, hostess, wedding, shower, or holiday gift. A great piece to add to your collection.
