Antique Bone Dish, Syracuse China, Crescent Shaped Dish, Floral Pattern, Embossed, Side Dish, Set of 2
A charming set of 2 antique bone dishes by Syracuse China. The dishes are crescent shaped to fit next to a dinner plate. The pattern is floral and the edges of the dishes are embossed. These are great side dishes and have lots of versatility. They would make great nut or candy, trinket, jewelry, or even soap dishes.
Bone dishes were considered a necessary part of a Victorian table setting. The crescent-shaped dish was kept at the edge of the dinner plate so the bones removed from fish could be placed in them.
Syracuse China was located in Syracuse, New York. It was founded in 1871 as Onondaga Pottery Company in the town of Geddes, New York. In the late 19th century, Onondaga Pottery began producing fine china, for which it found a strong market particularly in hotels, restaurants, and railroad dining cars. The manufacturing facility in Syracuse closed in 2009, after 138 years of operation.
