Antique Porcelain Nippon Bowl, Rising Sun Mark, Hand Painted Floral Pattern, 2 Handled, Gold Trim, Rose Design, Trinket Bowl, Vanity Bowl, Candy Bowl, Nut Dish
A beautiful antique porcelain Nippon bowl. It has the blue Rising Sun Mark. The pattern is floral (roses) with black lines and gold trim. It is Hand Painted and the colors are bright and cheerful. This would make a great trinket bowl on a vanity, a wonderful candy or nut dish, or a small bowl on a buffet or sideboard.
The word "Nippon" in western characters means "Japan" and occurs on most Japanese wares from around 1890 until the early 1920s. From 1891 imports to America were required to be marked with the country of origin, in western characters. Thus Japanese exports to America were marked with "Nippon" in English. In 1922 the requirement was changed to the word "Japan".
1 1/4 inches in height
5 1/4 inches in diameter
This antique bowl is in good condition especially considering its age. There are no chips, cracks or crazing. There is a lot of rubbing to the gold and the black lines (please see photo) but that is to be expected on an antique of this age.
