Soda Bottle, Hutchinson Closure, Blob Top, Circa 1880, James J. McGraw, Albany NY, Collectible, Clear Glass

A great aqua soda bottle from James J McGraw, Albany, New York. The bottle dates from circa 1880 and has it's Hutchinson closure intact. It is clear in color and the embossing on it states James J. McGraw Albany New York on one side and J.J.McG on the other. This bottle is hand blown into a mold with a smooth attached bottom and applied top. (also known as a blob top)

Charles G. Hutchinson invented and patented the Hutchinson Stopper in 1879 as a replacement for cork bottle stoppers which were commonly being used. His invention employed a wire spring attached to a rubber seal.

James J. McGraw was a bottler of soda and mineral water.

Size:
7 inches in height
2 1/2 inch in diameter

This bottle is about 135 years old but is in very good condition. The bubbles in the glass are from the manufacturing process and the metal stopper gives the bottle character as well as dates it. There are rub marks and a very small chip on the top.

What a wonderful gift for a collector or to add to your own collection.
