A wonderful clear glass antique bottle with an applied lip. It is embossed with "FAD Richter & Co." on one thin side and "New York" on the other. One of the wide sides is embossed with "Pain-Expeller/ Reg. U.S. Pat. Off/ for/ Rheumatism Gout/Neuralgia colds Etc." and an anchor. The bottle is from the circa 1800s. It would be an ideal addition to a pharmaceutical bottle collection. A great gift idea for a collector.
Richter (1846 to 1910) was a German businessman who claimed to have earned an M.D. from the University of Philadelphia, a nonexistent institution. Featuring the brand’s anchor, Richter’s advertising to Americans promised pain relief from Rheumatism, Gout, Neuralgia, Colds, etc. Around 1907 pharmacists determined that Richter had created his Anchor Pain Expeller using chili, black, and Guinea peppers with galangal root, astringent rhatany, and the oils of thyme, clove, rosemary, and lavender.

This bottle is in excellent condition. There are no chips or cracks. The bottle has a raised bottom and there are bubbles in the glass from the manufacturing process.
