A gorgeous set of 4 snack plates by Lefton China. The pattern is called Violet Chintz and consists of plates and cups being covered completely with purple violets. The inside of the cups is white and the plates and cups are trimmed with gold. The plates are shaped like a shell and the bottom of the shell serves as a handle. This would be perfect for an al fresco lunch or an afternoon tea. A great gift idea.
Lefton China was founded by George Zoltan Lefton an immigrant from Hungary after he arrived in Chicago, Illinois in 1939 and established the company in 1940. He had previously worked in the clothing and sportswear industry, but he was a collector of fine porcelain and dreamed of entering that business. Lefton had always admired the quality and workmanship in finer Japanese and oriental porcelain, and after the end of World War II, he pursued business relationships in post-war Occupied Japan to export Japanese porcelain to America. Lefton made a wide variety of pieces, from kitchenware and utilitarian pieces to purely decorative pieces to be displayed on the living room shelf.

The snack sets are in excellent condition. There are no cracks, chips or crazing. The gold shows a small amount of wear from use.
