1961 Children's Hardcover Book, A Winter Friend, Maxine Kumin, First Edition, Seventh Printing, Fiction, Beginning to Read, Collectible, Illustrated

A wonderful children's first edition seventh printing hardcover book called A Winter Friend by Maxine Kumin. This fictional book is a See and Read Beginning-To-Read Book.

This is the fourth and last book on the seasons by this author. It tells of a little boy who imagines himself a winter guide to a friend from outer space. He would show his friend how men fish in a frozen pond, how the animals' coats thicken, how snow plows and road sand keep cars safe in icy weather. They would choose a Christmas tree from among the evergreens that bloom in the cold, they would ski, sleigh-ride and toboggan. They might also ponder a cocoon and remember that many animals are tucked away for the season. Rural New England is the ideal setting for this wonderful story. The author's verse is easy-to-read.

Maxine Kumin (1925 – 2014) was an American poet and author. She was appointed Poet Laureate Consultant in Poetry to the Library of Congress in 1981–1982.

Fine: A Fine book approaches the condition of As New, but without being crisp. The book may have been opened and read, but there are no defects to the book, jacket or pages.

Very Good: Describes a book that shows some small signs of wear - but no tears - on either binding or paper. Any defects should be noted by the seller.

Good: Describes the average used book that has all pages or leaves present. Any defects should be noted by the seller.

Fair: Worn book that has complete text pages (including those with maps or plates) but may lack endpapers, half-title, etc. Binding, jacket (if any), etc., may also be worn. All defects should be noted.

Poor: Describes a book that is sufficiently worn. Any missing maps or plates should still be noted. This copy may be soiled, scuffed, stained or spotted and may have loose joints, hinges, pages, etc.

Binding Copy: describes a book in which the pages or leaves are perfect but the binding is very bad, loose, off, or nonexistent.

Reading Copy: A copy usually in poor to fair condition that includes all text presented in a legible fashion. The copy is fine to read but nothing more.
