Railroad Ice Cream Bowls, Atchison, Topeka, & Santa Fe, Syracuse China, California Poppy, Restaurant Grade, Set of 3, Dessert Dish

A lovely Ice Cream Bowls by Syracuse China. These bowls were made for the Atchison, Topeka, & Santa Fe railroad. Restaurant grade of this pattern was made exclusively for the Harvey Houses (restaurants and inns run by Fred Harvey) that lined the railroad route and the Atchison, Topeka, & Santa Fe train company. The railroad was located in the southwestern United States. The pattern name is California Poppy and consists of yellow poppies on a cream-colored background. These bowls are called ice cream shells and were used to serve ice and other desserts. These would look wonderful on a buffet, table, or sideboard. A wonderful gift idea for the railroad enthusiast.

Syracuse China was located in Syracuse, New York. It was founded in 1871 as Onondaga Pottery Company in the town of Geddes, New York. In the late 19th century, Onondaga Pottery began producing fine china, for which it found a strong market, particularly in hotels, restaurants, and railroad dining cars. The manufacturing facility in Syracuse closed in 2009, after 138 years of operation.
